Twelve Jyotirlinga Shiva

A Jyotirlinga or Jyotirling or Jyotirlingam (Sanskrit: ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग) are shrines where Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlingam. Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotra or Dwadasa Jyotir Linga Stotram is a beautiful prayer addressed to the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.

सौराष्ट्रे सोमनाधञ्च श्रीशैले मल्लिकार्जुनम् ।
उज्जयिन्यां महाकालम् ॐकारेत्वमामलेश्वरम् ॥

पर्ल्यां वैद्यनाधञ्च ढाकिन्यां भीम शङ्करम् ।
सेतुबन्धेतु रामेशं नागेशं दारुकावने ॥

वारणाश्यान्तु विश्वेशं त्रयम्बकं गौतमीतटे ।
हिमालयेतु केदारं घृष्णेशन्तु विशालके ॥

एतानि ज्योतिर्लिङ्गानि सायं प्रातः पठेन्नरः ।

Somanatha in Sourashtra, Mallikarjuna in Sri Shailam .
Mahakala in Ujjain,Omkaram in Amaleshwara .

Vaidhyanatha in Parali,Bhimasankara in South.
Rameshwara near the bridge in Sethu,Nageswara in Daruka forest.

Visweswara in Varnasi,Trayambakeshwara in the shores of Godavari.
Kedareshwara in Himalayas,And Ghushmesha in Sivalaya.

He who remembers them,Morning and evening.
Would wash away sins,Committed in his seven births.

सौराष्ट्रदेशे विशदे‌உतिरम्ये ज्योतिर्मयं चन्द्रकलावतंसम् ।
भक्तप्रदानाय कृपावतीर्णं तं सोमनाथं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ 1 ॥

श्रीशैलशृङ्गे विविधप्रसङ्गे शेषाद्रिशृङ्गे‌உपि सदा वसन्तम् ।
तमर्जुनं मल्लिकपूर्वमेनं नमामि संसारसमुद्रसेतुम् ॥ 2 ॥

अवन्तिकायां विहितावतारं मुक्तिप्रदानाय च सज्जनानाम् ।
अकालमृत्योः परिरक्षणार्थं वन्दे महाकालमहासुरेशम् ॥ 3 ॥

कावेरिकानर्मदयोः पवित्रे समागमे सज्जनतारणाय ।
सदैव मान्धातृपुरे वसन्तम् ॐकारमीशं शिवमेकमीडे ॥ 4 ॥

पूर्वोत्तरे प्रज्वलिकानिधाने सदा वसं तं गिरिजासमेतम् ।
सुरासुराराधितपादपद्मं श्रीवैद्यनाथं तमहं नमामि ॥ 5 ॥

यं डाकिनिशाकिनिकासमाजे निषेव्यमाणं पिशिताशनैश्च ।
सदैव भीमादिपदप्रसिद्धं तं शङ्करं भक्तहितं नमामि ॥ 6 ॥

श्रीताम्रपर्णीजलराशियोगे निबध्य सेतुं विशिखैरसङ्ख्यैः ।
श्रीरामचन्द्रेण समर्पितं तं रामेश्वराख्यं नियतं नमामि ॥ 7 ॥

याम्ये सदङ्गे नगरे‌உतिरम्ये विभूषिताङ्गं विविधैश्च भोगैः ।
सद्भक्तिमुक्तिप्रदमीशमेकं श्रीनागनाथं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ 8 ॥

सानन्दमानन्दवने वसन्तम् आनन्दकन्दं हतपापबृन्दम् ।
वाराणसीनाथमनाथनाथं श्रीविश्वनाथं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ 9 ॥

सह्याद्रिशीर्षे विमले वसन्तं गोदावरितीरपवित्रदेशे ।
यद्दर्शनात् पातकं पाशु नाशं प्रयाति तं त्र्यम्बकमीशमीडे ॥ 10 ॥

महाद्रिपार्श्वे च तटे रमन्तं सम्पूज्यमानं सततं मुनीन्द्रैः ।
सुरासुरैर्यक्ष महोरगाढ्यैः केदारमीशं शिवमेकमीडे ॥ 11 ॥

इलापुरे रम्यविशालके‌உस्मिन् समुल्लसन्तं च जगद्वरेण्यम् ।
वन्दे महोदारतरस्वभावं घृष्णेश्वराख्यं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ 12 ॥

ज्योतिर्मयद्वादशलिङ्गकानां शिवात्मनां प्रोक्तमिदं क्रमेण ।

Sourashtra Dese Visadhethi Ramye,
Jyothirmayam Chandra Kalavathamsam,
Bhakthi Pradhanaya Krupavatheernam,
Tham Soma Nadham Saranam Prapadhye 1

I seek refuge of the Soma Nadha,
Who is in the holy and pretty Sourashtra,
Who is dazzling with light,
Who wears the crescent of the moon,
Who has come there to give,
The gift of devotion and mercy.

Sri Shaila Sange Vibhudathi Sange,
Thulathi Thune Api Mudha Vasantham,
Thamarjunam Mallika Poorvamekam,
Namami Samsara Samudhra Sethum 2

I salute him who is the bridge to the ocean of life,
Who is in the company of all gods,
And living in the union of Sri Shaila,
Who resides on the peak of Thula,
And who is called Mallikarjuna,

Avanthikayam Vihithavatharam,

The Ocean of the misery of life.

Sada Vasantham Girija Sametham,
Surasuradhitha Pada Padmam,

I salute that Vaidyanatha,
Whose lotus feet are worshipped,
By all asuras and devas,
And who lives in place of eternal shine,
In the north east of India,
Along with his consort Parvathi.

I meditate on Shiva who is the Lord of Kedara,
Who takes pleasure in the valley of the great mountain,
Who is always worshipped by great sages,
And also devas, asuras, yakshas and nagas.

Godavari Theera Pavithra Dese,
Yad Darsanal Pathakamasu Nasam,
Prayathi Tham Traimbaka Meesa Meede 8

I meditate on the lord of Triambaka,
Who lives on the peak of western ghats,
In the holy shores of river Godavari,
And who destroys all sins,
Of his devotees who see him.

Suthamra Varnee Jala Rasi Yoge,
Nibhadhya Sethum Visikhaira Sankyai,
Sri Ramachandrna Samarpitham Tham,
Ramesamakhyam Niyatham Smarami 9

I meditate with devotion the lord of Rama,
Who lives in the confluence of river,
Thamravarnee with the sea,
Where a bridge has been built.
With the help of umpteen arrows,
By the Lord Sri Rama Chandra.

Who is the darling of his devotees,
Who is being worshipped by rakshasas,
In the company of Ghosts called Dakini and Sakini,
And who is well known as “Bheema”.

Varanasi Nadha Manadha Nadham,

I seek the protection of the Lord of universe,
Who lives is happily in the forest of joy,
Who is the basis of all happiness,
Who destroys all accumulated sins,
Who is the lord of the city of Varanasi,
And who is the lord of all who do not have anybody.

This prayer which tells about,
The twelve resplendent lingas,
If read with devotion by men,
Would make them be worshiped by others.

A Jyotirlinga or Jyotirling or Jyotirlingam (Sanskrit: ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग) are shrines where Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlingam. ‘Jyothi’ means ‘Radiance’ and Lingam, the Shiva Lingam-‘the mark or sign’ of The Almighty or the phallus symbol. Jyotir Lingam means the The Radiant sign of The Almighty. The worship of the Jyotirlingas has great significance and importance in the Hindu religion.This is the shorter version of the stotra, which is praise or stuti of the 12 Jyotirlinga.It is said that who so ever remembers the 12 Jyotirlanga with sincerity washes away the sins which he has accumulated in his past seven lives.
